15-minute Hot Honey Ginger Chicken Breast

In a busy day, chicken breast is always one of my top options. It’s healthy, quick to cook and able to transform to various delicious dishes. From chicken breast, a bit ginger, garlic, honey and siracha, we can make a great dinner with Honey Ginger Chicken Breast in 15 minutes. It can totally be served with steamed rice and vegetables or as a side dish.

The key to this recipe is a perfect hot honey ginger sauce. This is a combination between the sweetness and thick texture of honey, spicy and tangy siracha sauce or sweet chili sauce and the aroma from ginger and garlic. Believe me, it makes the dish become special. Let’s discover how we can make it have a tasty meal in only 15 minutes.

Ingredients for Hot Honey Ginger Chicken Breast

To make Honey Garlic Chicken Breast, the ingredients you should prepare are quite similar to Chicken Breast in Teriyaki sauce; the only difference is to replace soy sauce with siracha sauce, hot chili sauce, or sweet chili sauce (if you can’t endure the spiciness). You’ll need:

Chicken Breast

I used chicken breast this time, a popular choice in cooking. It’s a good source of protein and a main ingredient in hundreds of dishes. I sliced 2 chicken breasts, but you can use cubes orwhole breasts. Besides, this recipe also works with other parts of chicken such as thighs, drumsticks, wings.

Slices of chicken breast

To prepare honey ginger chicken breast, you can either bake it in oven or air-fryer or fry it in a pan with a bit of oil. I didn’t make deep-fried chicken to reduce the cooking time of the dish, making it a 15-minutes recipe.

Hot Honey Ginger sauce

This recipe uses Honey Garlic sauce. It is made from siracha sauce or chili sauce, honey, garlic and ginger. It’s a simple yet tasty sauce not only for mixing with chicken but also for dipping. Siracha sauce/chili sauce is easily found in supermarket.

Because siracha sauce and honey are all thick, you won’t need to add more cornstarch to thicken the sauce.

Finally, you can garnish the dish with a tsp of white sesame. It brings a bit more texture as well as a nicer aroma for your chicken. In Asia, especially in South Korea, sesame is a must-have dressing. You can buy white sesame in every Asian food store or in supermarket.

How to make Hot Honey Ginger Chicken Breast

For chicken breast slices, frying on a pan is the fastest method to cook, which takes you only 10 minutes. Let’s start:

Step 1. Fry chicken breasts

Wash your chicken breasts thoroughly and slice them into ½-inch slices. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.

Turn on medium heat and start to fry them in a pan with a bit vegetable oil, about 1-2 tbsp. Fry in 5 minutes, then flip the slices. Fry for 5 minutes more.

Set them aside on a plate; it’s the final plate for presenting your dish too. It’s to save one more dish to be washed after all.

Step 2. Make Hot Honey Ginger Sauce

On the same frying pan, mix 2 tbsp butter or vegetable oil, 1 tbsp of minced garlic and ginger, ½ tsp salt, 2 tbsp honey, 3 tbsp water and 4 tbsp siracha sauce/sweet or spicy chili sauce together. Stir them well on low heat until well dissolved. Cook in 2-3 minutes to thicken the sauce.

Finally, return the chicken breasts into the pan, and mix them well with your honey ginger sauce. Make sure your chicken slices are glazed by the sauce. Taste the last time and adjust if any; for more sweetness, add honey, for more spiciness add a bit more siracha sauce. If you make the dish for kids, I suggest reducing the spiciness by using ketchup or sweet chili sauce instead. You can also add several drops of lemon juice to stabilize and balance the taste.

Serving and preservation

This dish can be treated as a side dish or as a main course together with steamed rice and vegetables/ salads. My favorite is to eat it with lettuces, cucumber & carrot, as the sauce is so good as a dressing for salads.

In case you still have leftover chicken in honey ginger sauce, just store it in fridge. The best time to consume the leftover is in 2-3 days, no more. In case you would like to keep it in longer time, freeze it up to 3 months and remember to label so that you won’t forget.

To reheat, you can stir-fry it on stove, or microwave for 5-10 minutes with cold chicken pieces, or 15-20 minutes with frozen ones.
