Benefits of Watermelon Pineapple and Carrot Juice
I’m into the combination of carrot, pineapple, and watermelon because of two key things: its vibrant orange color, and its high content of vitamin A and C, which is essential for a healthy skin and vision. Moreover, this smoothie is high in fiber and water to support my digestive system. I’m quite lazy of drinking water especially in winter, so a healthy and delicious drink is always a good idea.
Let’s deep dive into the health benefit of each ingredient:
- Watermelon: Watermelon is an excellent source of hydration, with over 90% of its content consisting of water. This makes it an ideal choice for staying hydrated, especially during hot weather or after a workout. Staying well-hydrated is crucial for overall health as it helps maintain bodily functions, regulate temperature, and support healthy skin.
- Pineapple: Pineapples are rich in vitamin C, a vital nutrient that plays a significant role in supporting our immune system. Vitamin C helps the body produce white blood cells, which are essential for fighting off infections and illnesses. With pineapple in your smoothie, you’re giving your immune system a boost and helping your body defend itself against various diseases.
- Carrots: They are particularly known for their high content of beta-carotene, a powerful antioxidant that the body can convert into vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential for maintaining healthy skin, promoting good vision, and supporting the immune system.
How to Select the Best Ingredients
Indeed, the ingredients for a smoothie or a juice are usually simple. For watermelon pineapple and carrot smoothie, you’ll simply need watermelon, pineapple and carrot, that’s it. I prefer not to add any sugar into the smoothie to keep it as healthy as possible. Let’s learn how to pick the best ingredients for your drink:
- Watermelon: Look for a watermelon that is firm, symmetrical, and free from bruises or dents. I learn from my mom and try to give it a gentle tap and hear the sound; a ripe watermelon should sound hollow. You should feel it heavy; it indicates that the flesh is dense.
- Pineapple: Choose a pineapple with bright green leaves. The skin should be firm but not hard, and it should have a sweet pineapple aroma at the base. Avoid pineapples with brown or moldy spots. Gently press on the pineapple; if you see that the pineapple is soft, it means it is ripe.
- Carrots: Opt for fresh, firm carrots with vibrant orange color. Hard and firm carrots show that they are still fresh. Avoid carrots that are soft, wilted, or have cracks.
Recipe
My recipe for watermelon pineapple and carrot smoothie includes:
- 200g (7oz) pineapple
- 100g (3.5oz) carrot
- 100g (3.5oz) watermelon
- 60ml (4 tbsp) milk (soy milk/almond milk/cow milk). This is optional.
How to Make Watermelon Pineapple and Carrot Smoothie
Step 1. Wash and prepare all your ingredients
- Peel carrot, cut watermelon and pineapple. Then, cut ingredients into small pieces to easily add them into blender.
Step 2. Blending
- Start by adding the watermelon cubes, pineapple chunks, chopped carrots and milk (if any) to a blender. If you want a colder smoothie, add a some of ice cubes to the blender as well but not too much; otherwise, the smoothie will be thin and tasteless. Blend everything until you achieve a smooth and consistent mixture. You may need to stop and shake or scrape down the sides of the blender to ensure everything is well combined.
Step 3. Adjusting consistency and sweetness
- If the juice is too thick, you can add a little water to reach your desired consistency. Taste the juice and adjust the sweetness by adding a bit of honey if necessary, in case your pineapple is tangier than expected.
Once you are satisfied with the taste and texture, pour the juice into glasses. Garnish each glass with a fresh mint leaf or a chunk of pineapple if possible. Serve your Watermelon Pineapple and Carrot Juice immediately and enjoy the refreshing and nutritious benefits of it. Shake or stir before drinking for a smooth and blended flavor.
Preserving Smoothie
As a refreshing smoothie, I recommend drinking immediately after blending or within 4-6 hours to feel the freshness and fully absorb nutrients in it. Don’t store it in the fridge overnight because all ingredients are fresh and contain a lot of water. You can prep the smoothie with prepared ingredients in a same box from the night before, then blend it in the next morning.
